Pulse Dye Laser Treatment

With pulse dye laser treatment, achieve flawless skin free from pigmented lesions and visible veins. At Theresa Longo Dermatology, we offer PDL treatment, one of the most renowned cosmetic procedures for treating vascular lesions. By using a beam of light, it targets the unwanted or excess blood vessels on your skin. This laser-based treatment successfully addresses other skin conditions like:
  • Rosacea
  • Acne scars
  • Spider and cherry angiomas
  • Traumatic scars
  • Portwine stains
  • Angiokeratomas
  • Surgical scars
  • Haemangiomas

How does a Pulse Dye Laser Treatment Work?

In a PDL treatment, a light beam is converted into heat, which is safe for the skin.  The heat destroys the lesion and results in lightening of its color. It targets only the affected part of the skin without causing any harm to the surrounding tissues. But it requires multiple sessions, and the number of sessions depends on the extent of the skin condition.

We will evaluate a number of factors before starting the treatment. Determining the parameters such as wavelength, fluence, and pulse duration is one of them, which is based on the skin type and the location of the lesion. Deeper and larger spots require different parameters compared to small and less apparent spots.

What are the Benefits of Pulse Dye Laser Treatment?

PDL is a non-surgical treatment with no requirement for anesthesia. Only a numbing cream is used, and cold air is produced so the patient feels no discomfort during the treatment.

The results of PDL treatment last for a long time with just a need for a touch-up after some time. It lightens the vascular lesions and makes them less apparent, giving you the confidence back with radiant skin.

Are there Any Side Effects of the Treatment?

The post-treatment side effects are minimal to none. Minor bruising can occur, but it generally resolves on its own. In a few cases, light blistering may also occur, for which we prescribe suitable medications if needed.

Things to Remember after the Treatment:

You need to remember a few things about which our staff will also guide you in detail after the treatment.

  • Do not touch the skin if any crusting develops.
  • In case of pain or discomfort, use only the prescribed medications by the dermatologist.
  • Do not use any scented products or soap for 48 hours.
  • Avoid hot baths and swimming for 24 hours.
  • In case you want to apply makeup, be gentle.
  • Always apply sunscreen in between sessions and also after the treatment.
